Date
2025-2026
Location
Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn
For over four generations, this Brooklyn brownstone has been the backdrop to a family's life. It has witnessed decades of memories, celebrations, and change—including three family weddings held on the parlor floor and a chapter when the home was occupied entirely by women: grandmothers, mothers, daughters, aunts, and nieces living under one roof. Much of this history has been lovingly recounted by one of the home's current owners, now in her late nineties, whose stories have helped shape the vision for its next chapter.
This project is rooted in restoration, preservation, and renewal. The goal is not simply to renovate the building, but to honor its history while ensuring it remains a vibrant and functional home for generations to come.
The townhouse is being thoughtfully reconfigured into three residences. The garden level will become a private one-bedroom apartment designed to accommodate family members and maintain a connection to the home's legacy. The parlor floor will house a gracious one-bedroom residence that celebrates the building's historic proportions, original details, and soaring ceilings. Above, the third and fourth floors will be transformed into a spacious duplex residence featuring three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a chef's kitchen, private roof deck, and a light-filled living room centered around the home's original bay window. Each bedroom is designed with a dedicated en-suite bath, creating a layout that supports contemporary living while maximizing comfort and privacy.
Throughout the project, functionality and preservation guide every design decision. Historic character is carefully retained and restored, while custom millwork and integrated storage solutions are woven throughout the home to support modern life. The result will be a collection of residences that feel both timeless and practical—respecting the stories that came before while creating a foundation for new ones to be made.
